Here are some friendly tips from years of experience on the job.
Preparing for the big Move:
- Inspect your new premises carefully and assess whether your furniture will fit in the desired location. Additionally, check to see if the furniture can be moved to the desired location i.e. through doorways etc.
- When moving to an apartment check to see if furniture can be carried up through doorways and up the stair case.
- Investigate whether parking permits are required for removals vehicles if required.
- Investigate whether elevators are allowed to be used during removals.
Packing:
- Make sure when using an empty box, inspect the bottom of the box and ensure that the bottom of the box is safely tapped together. You do not want the box to open up from the bottom during the move.
- Keep books and heavy items in small boxes.
- Do not use brown tape directly on surfaces of furniture, cutlery, cookware, etc as it will leave sticky markings when removed. For such applications rather use masking (paper) tape.
- Use masking tape to secure the drawers in the closed position, thus keeping them from opening and getting damaged during the move.
- Empty all drawers. Drawers are not made to be moved when they are filled with items. They will get damaged in the process.
- When disassembling furniture put all the bits and pieces (screws, etc) into a plastic bag and tape the bag safely onto the related furniture part.
